Can dental bonding fix crooked teeth?

No one’s perfect - and our teeth can sure be far from it.

So many people have crooked or crowded/overlapping teeth, or teeth with gaps in between. With that said, it’s normal for everyone to long for a stunning and straight smile that they can be proud to show off.

A smile that is crooked or imperfect (technically termed a “malocclusion”) can range from being mild to severe and in need of longer or more extensive treatment.

Fortunately, for many cases of malocclusion that are mild, a cosmetic dental bonding procedure or treatment with veneers at our dental office in Guelph can successfully mask small gaps that may be present between the teeth, or can correct any other kind of minor aesthetic flaw without having to go through months of orthodontic treatment with traditional braces or Invisalign® clear aligners.

An Instant Fix for a Beautiful New Smile

While both fairly similar procedures, there are key differences between treatment with cosmetic bonding, and treatment with dental veneers. Let’s explore these key differences below:

About Cosmetic Bonding

Cosmetic dental bonding allows our Guelph dentist to conceal or correct crooked or uneven teeth through applying a mouldable, tooth-coloured composite resin (the same material used for white dental fillings) to the surfaces of the affected teeth.

The procedure is quick, painless and minimally-invasive, and is great for closing up mild gaps between the teeth. Cosmetic bonding can even be used to reshape or improve the shade of discoloured teeth, and what’s more: it definitely comes with a better price tag compared to dental veneers.

About Dental Veneers

Porcelain dental veneers are an excellent option for patients with minor cases of misalignment, or with very minor gaps between the teeth, who are looking to really enhance their smile’s appearance. While they work the same way as cosmetic bonding to address misalignment through concealing these gaps, the technique with dental veneers is different.

Veneers are essentially wafer-thin shells that are permanently adhered directly to the surfaces of the teeth requiring treatment, instantly transforming the look of the smile for years to come. In fact, the porcelain material is resistant to stains and can provide a beautiful and natural-looking result for longer than 20 years, in some cases.
