Why Are Regular Dental Visits Important?
We'll give you two VERY good reasons!

importance of dental check ups

Did you know? It's crucial to visit the dentist for a check-up and cleaning every 6 months. Really, the health of your smile depends on it!

But you may be thinking.. "If there's seemingly nothing wrong with my smile, why do I need to see the dentist?"

This is a common thought. If a person is experiencing no pain or warning signs or symptoms, then why would they need to visit the dentist?

Well, it all comes down to two main reasons:

1. Prevention

The check-up portion of your dental visit is performed in order to identify any oral health problems that you may not be aware of. Oral issues don't always present symptoms - especially if they're in their early stages. Our Guelph dentist will check for problems such as tooth decay/cavities, enamel wear, gum disease or recession, and any suspicious lesions that may be cancerous. The earlier any issue is detected, the better the prognosis for successful treatment - and typically, the less extensive the procedure required.

2. Maintenance

The cleaning portion of your dental visit is performed in order to keep the mouth clean, healthy, and free of disease. The dental hygienist uses special dental instruments to scrape away hardened deposits of bacteria on the teeth - bacteria that, if not regularly removed, lead to gum disease which puts the teeth at risk for eventually falling out. Yikes! Yet another important reason to get that professional teeth cleaning every 6 months.

How long has it been since you've been in the dentist's chair?

If you've been putting off your bi-yearly dental visit, don't wait any longer to bring your smile in to the professionals! Your oral health depends on you to commit to regular check-ups and cleanings in conjunction with a proper daily oral care routine at home.
